The most delicious food I've ever tasted! I wish there was one in Charleston, SC.
Stumbled across this gem while sightseeing in Beaufort. Food was amazing. I let the nice gal behind the counter pick my lunch for me, since I was a newb. Everything she picked was crazy delicious. Battered & fried bone-in pork chop, bbq pork spare rib, okra stew, butter beans, and sweet cabbage. She even threw in some corn because it was my first time. So tasty! This was REAL food, from the heart and soul. And even though I was an out-of-place white boy from NYC, they treated me like family...and that goes for the staff and the charming fellow diners who stopped by my table and said 'Hello.' I'll never forget this experience.
I lived in South Carolina about 30 years ago and I wanted my kids to experience true southern fare. I asked many locals about this place after seeing it and none of them knew of it; they wanted to recommend local sea food. We went but they were closed (hours 11am -3pm) so we went back the next day. It was exactly what I wanted and the rest of the family loved it too. Excellent and all of the reviews on the wall tell you. Best value on great southern food. You will be happy if you are looking for sourthern fare. Great Pulled pork sandwich. Buy it and go to the Point Park to eat and you will be in the south.Went again this summer (2015) still the best BBQ in the low country. The Family all loved it.
Outstanding BBQ and hand made sides. Skip the fancy places and go here instead. We had the pit cooked pork, ribs, and meatloaf all were amazing.
Don't pass this place up. The food was excellent. My boyfriend had the pulled pork, fried corn and mashed potatoes and gravy and collards. I had the ribs, candied sweet potatoes, mac n cheeses and collards. The fried corn was the best I've ever had and my boyfriend got to shake Sgt. White's hand and tell him so. It's a bit of a way for us but still well worth the drive. Check them out - you won't be disappointed.
Great eatery. You will not leave hungry.
Some of the best southern soul food in the area. Portions are generous and the staff has been friendly every time I've been there. I enjoy the atmosphere in the dining area which is themed around the military bases on the island. This is one of those must-stop places for visitors and tourists.
We're planning our next trip through the South to include a lunch stop at Sgt Whites. After 4 years we still remember it so well and can't wait for the best Bbq in SC.
Best dang food I've had in a long time! Fork tender brisket and collard greens like grandma used to make! Friendly people great atmosphere. Will definitely be back here!
Got there 5 minutes before they closed and they would only serve us food to go even though it was obvious there was still plenty of cleaning to do. Explained to them that we were staying on Fripp and our food would be cold by the time we got home and all they said was "sorry"...that's no way to do business!
Good place for country style comfort food. The bbq is OK, but overall the food is good. Unfortunately they seem to only be open during lunch hours.
Excellent food. I got ribs, collards and fried okra. All of it was tasty and very well seasoned. My buddies got the pulled pork BBQ and said it was some of the best BBQ he's had outside of Texas. Definitely want to go back and try more food
What's with the price? Raise your prices Sgt! And real lemonade at that. Awesome!
I had 1 Rib & 1 Pork chop mac & cheese and cabbage cornbread Ice-T the lady in the front was so pleasant it was incredible food was delicious will definitely be back
I hate to think that this review might entice others to start going here to eat. It could possibly detract from the appeal of the place.FirstIt's cafeteria style but it's a short counter. The meat and 3 is less than $10 with tea or lemonade. I had the Pulled Pork and wife had BBQ chicken. Both got the butter beans. I had taters and gravy, she had rice and gravy. Man o man this was the best meal of our trip. I absolutely love that I didn't need to reach for the salt and pepper. I fell like I was 6 again and eating at Grandma's.Not enough stars for the food.
The best down home Southern Food severed with genuine hospitality! This is where the locals eat! We never pass through Beaufort without stopping and eating more than we should and seeing long time friends! Lima Beans, Okra Stew and the Fried Pork Chops are my Go To!
Great food fast service amazing people I always get the fired fish for the most part been good since 09
Delicious! I went into a food coma after lunch here. Atmosphere is nice and staff are very polite. I will definitely be coming back
A must stop for good ole fashion southern BBQ. A locally owned by retired Marine
The fried pork chop and candied yams! I will try to be here every Friday. They are very friendly and polite as well.
Down South cooking with the right seasoning and flavoring. I recommend the Jerk Chicken it's the best.
Mediocre BBQ. Lemonade and sweet tea was great
Food always top notch. Great pork chops. Service always friendly
It's a small restaurant with a seating area and is open from 11a-3p. Cafeteria style. Great southern BBQ with a great selection of sides, my favorite are the fried pork chops though! It is pretty busy during the normal lunch hour. They offer 2 plates. Your choice of meat with two sides($8) or choice of meat and 3 sides($9). Love this place.
This place got me through the early to late 90’s at the air station, and boy do I miss it. Semper Fi Sgt. White!
Fabulous food. Brought a bus load of Girl Scouts and they accommodate!
I have experienced greatness. Everything about this place is phenomenal. Worth the wait, worth the money, worth the drive, worth everything. Absolutely recommend.
Just good southern BBQ and Soul food. I'm not overly impressed with the BBQ but that isn't surprising. I do like the fried chicken and all the veggie sides they have managed to fix like mom's.
Down home, tasty, delicious comfort food. Big portions. Make sure you come with a big appetite!
Oh man the food at this place was so good! I dream of going here again but live really far away and probably will never make it back. I still have yet to find another BBQ spot that compares this one.
Awesome food, everything is seasoned just right, a very good deal for what you pay.
Went to Sgt Whites today for lunch normally I have a good experience with this place, but today I can't say that. I ordered the bake chicken like I do every time I go there, today the chicken was under cooked. I called Sgt White to inform him of this and his response was OK, thank you and hung up the phone. I called him back to ask him if his phone was disconnected because I wanted to know what was he going to do since that was my lunch break and I did not have anything to eat, he said bring the chicken back, no its in the trash can, and I just wasted my lunch break. I have heard stories of his rudeness and today I experienced it. He has lost a customer. I will tell others about this. Money gone down the drain.
Hard to imagine much better barbeque, terrific sides, warm greetings and terrific homemade desserts
I was born and raised in the lowcountry, and for years Sgt. White's has been my favorite place to get authentic southern food. The BBQ is truly unsurpassed, and everything they serve is phenomenal!
This little hole in the wall is absolutely amazing. We just passed by and decided to stop for lunch and we will definitely come back every time we come to Beaufort! Pulled pork, mac and cheese, best soul food in SC.
Was in town visiting family. Wanted some soul food. I had rice, lima beans, mac n cheese, and brisket. Mac n cheese was a little watered down with no flavor, I didn't like the brisket at all. The cornbread was really good and the rice and beans. I didn't feel the southern hospitality from the server either.
My husband and I enjoy eating at Sgt White's. Good food.
Sgt White's is amazing. Corn bread is the best I've ever had. Pulled pork BBQ that melts in your mouth. Fresh squeezed lemonade to wash it down. If I could give it six stars I would. Very friendly and well worth the money. Not going to break the bank for a very filling and satisfying lunch.
Great food and nice atmosphere. I had a very large serving of two huge fried pork chops, rice and gravy, and fried okra, along with a refreshing Arnold Palmer for 7.99. Half of my lunch is now my dinner. 😂
No contest, best dam BBQ anywhere around. Worst thing about sgt whites is deciding what to get. ITS ALL SO GOOD! Fam favorite for 25 years.
Heard about this place from a coworker. I was thoroughly impressed. nothing flashy or eccentric, just good cafeteria style, home cooked meals. Great servings for the price. highly recommend stopping here at least once to try it.
Great food wish they were open longer during the day
The best barbecue I have ever had! We have spent a fortune eating out for two weeks, when we should have been saving money and eating the best food in the South.
Fried pork chops better than grandma's and you get two as a serving.
Just delicious at it was 15 years ago! Awesome BBQ!
Food was ok... Not my type of BBQ but not bad... The fried pork chop was amazing
Had the best fried pork chops I have ever eat but that was it the sides were not what I expected. I had mac & cheese and rice & gravy both was over cooked and tasteless. The service was great and the staff was friendly. Really don't think I will go again.
Everything was amazingly delicious! We would have ordered two more fried pork sandwiches but we didn't have room. We would absolutely go out of our way to eat here again!
Amazing BBQ! Cafeteria style setting (Meat and sides). The sides are every bit as delicious as the BBQ and the staff is super nice.
Great food and great service!!! Employees are very kind, it is a very family friendly restaurant
